Genetic informationKnock-down of Snorc gene. Snorc is a novel transmembrane proteoglycan particularly expressed in cartilage tissue but also in minor amounts in some other tissues, including lactating mammary gland and prostate. For further details of this proteoglycan see: Heinonen et al. Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2011 Aug;19(8):1026-35. An ES cell clone containing the Snorc gene targeted by a promoter driven “knock-out first” EUCOMM/KOMP-CSD allele was obtained from the International Knockout Mouse Consortium (IKMC; https://www.mousephenotype.org/data/genes/MGI:1920484#order2) and used for blastocyst injection in C57BL/6NCrl mice for generation of this mouse strain. This is the 10th member of transmembrane proteoglycans and is highly conserved throughout vertebrates.
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
Delay in secondary ossification and alterations in trabecular bone structure. Long bones in adults are slightly shorter with some other alterations in the trabecular bone structure.

Heterozygous:
Not investigated.
Breeding historyThe strain has been backcrossed over 10 times to the C57BL/6NCrl strain maintained in the animal house of the University of Turku. Sibling matings have been avoided.
