Genetic informationThis strain was generated by the site-specific integrase-mediated transgenesis where the transgene (ITGA11-cre) was site-specifically inserted/integrated into a pre-modified Igs2 (or Hipp11) locus of the mouse genome, via pronuclear injection. The mutant mice carry the ITGA11-cre transgene where the cre recombinase expression is driven by the human integrin alpha11 promoter (plasmid construct: pBT378.3-ITGA11-Cre; 3 kb fragment of ITGA11 promoter). Characterization of the strain indicates fibroblast-specific expression of cre recombinase, during development and fibrosis, which resembles the endogenous integrin alpha 11 expression and regulation pattern. These mutant mice can be useful in studies involving fibroblasts, like analysis of different types of fibrosis and tumor cells-fibroblasts interactions.
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
No observable phenotypic changes with homozygous transgenic mice.

Heterozygous:
No observable phenotypic changes with the hemizygous transgenic mice.
Breeding historyThe F0 mice were generated in 2014 in Transgenic Core Facility at Stanford University and F1 mice were imported to our Animal Facility at University of Bergen in 2015. After arrival, the mice have been rederived and backcrossed to wild-type C57BL/6J mice and later kept as inbred. The mutant mice have been bred as both hemizygotes and homozygotes during the breeding period. The strain may need to be refreshed by backcrossing again to wild-type C57BL/6J mice to recover from potential genetic drift.
