Phenotypic information | Mutant mice deficient in lymphotoxin A (Lta or LT-alpha) and tumor necrosis factors (Tnf or TNF-alpha) genes, by homologous recombination (insertion of neo gene with deletion of all the Lta gene and a part of the Tnf gene). The tumor necrosis factors (TNF and LTA) are important mediators of the immune and inflammatory responses. The heterozygous mice have 20- to 100-fold lower TNF levels in circulation than the wild-type mice. Moreover, the heterozygous animals have an increased bacterial load following Listeria monocytogenes infection. |
Breeding history | R1 ES cells (129/Sv); chimaeras crossed to C57BL/6 and then intercrossed. |
